Guitar Lesson – Fast Pentatonic Technique #1
Difficulty = 2/5 (You don’t have to play it that fast)
Variations of this basic pentatonic run are used by guitarists worldwide, most notably Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Dimebag Darrel of Pantera. In order to unleash the power of this exercise, you must learn how to apply the picking technique to other areas of the fretboard. Try moving everything up so that the 12th fret is played on every string. Then you would be playing E minor pentatonic. If you know other “positions” of the pentatonic scale (there are 5 in total), try to play all of them using this technique. Many more lessons to come, please subscribe!

ha! nice! when i do it, i pulloff on the accented note. i used to pick every note, but then i got lazy. i think the hardest way to shred pentatonic is just regular without triplets-like zakk wylde. ONE two one two one two ONE two one two one two. descending to the next string after two notes. good vid

It helps to count …
It helps to count the notes like this:
ONE-two-three TWO-two-three THREE-two-three FOUR-two-three ONE-two-three and so forth.
Thanks, and good …
Thanks, and good question. The secret lies in accenting the first of every three notes. These are the notes that you want to land on metronome clicks, with 2 notes evenly spaced between each click. This teaches you to feel the core rhythm so that instead of trying to hit each and every note right on time, you only have to focus on timing the “main” notes. With practice, the other notes should fall right into place without conscious thought!

Good lesson man. …
Good lesson man. Well it’s no problem to do the pattern. But I’m having problem getting the speed you get. What do you do to just build up speed? Just play it over and over until you can do it faster or do you use some other technique like do double notes instead of just each note?¨
anyways nice vid 5/5. And what is that guitar? And is it EMG 81 and 60 on it?
