PostHeaderIcon Is this a bad technique on playing the bass guitar?

I looked up the tab for Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes)
I play using only the index finger(Left hand) and pluck with the index finger (right hand)
I can’t keep up the time. Can I look up youtube on how to hold the bass properly?

yeah lol you got 4 fingers to use, use them all not just one i highly recommend lessons, half those youtube videos are s*it, a teacher can answer any questions you have like that & teach you proper technique.
watching videos isn’t that great an idea, would you let a surgeon that learnt via youtube operate on you? (exact same applies to bass)

also bass guitar for dummies is a good side resource to have alongside your lessons

Go to youtube and type in free online bass lessons. There should be an account called BassLessonsOnline. Take a look at the video titled: "Absolutely Free Online Beginner Bass Lesson Number 2." That vid mainly teaches you how to hold it properly. The first video just tells the parts of a bass. This dude has helped me out a lot.

Yes, that is a bad habit that you need to break or else you are going to be stuck doing that. Certain situations can require you to play like that, but playing everything like that will be impossible. Find a teacher or bass DVD/online lesson that will show you how to hold a bass properly. It may seem like a waste of time to use proper technique, but trust me, it helps a lot. After you get experienced and know what works and what doesn’t work for you then you can change your technique, but it is good to get started with knowledge on the most common ways to play.
