how long does it take to learn to play a guitar or drums?
how many lessons does it take before your really good at playing the guitar or drums?
There’s a rule of thumb called the 10,000 Hour Rule, which says that it takes about 10,000 hours to master something new. But that’s not the point – if you’re enjoying the journey then it won’t matter how long it takes.

practice…..it will probably take at least half a year

some never get really good no matter how hard they practice.

I play both. It took me years to get good at drums, and I don’t feel that I am that good at guitar yet.

Seven year veteran.
A lifetime. Practice whenever you can.
You have to play for yourself. Don’t play for girls or popularity or whatever. There’s really no such thing as an easy way to learn guitar either.

i think to go for professional level it would take you approximately 2 years

Just practice practice pratice!
So anywhere from 6 months to a year. You’ll start to see results

It depends on how hard you work on it. If you buy a guitar or drums, practice regularly, and get a professional to help you, it shouldn’t take too much time. And if you are serious about wanting to learn to play, you will enjoy the process too.

I’ve been playing bass since I was 19 (I’m 46 now) and there’s always room for improvement. How long it takes for you to get the basics down depends on how hard you’re willing to work for it. The more you practice, the better you will be.

Impossible to answer…It really depends on both your dedication and determination. You have to practice or you simply won’t improve. Some people are lucky and have a natural flare for music but they still have to work at it.

Lessons are only part of learning. I’m not going to be a jerk about this, though. With about 2 months of weekly lessons you should start to notice being ok. How fast you get better really depends on how dedicated you are to practicing in between lessons. The teacher will tell you what to do, but they can’t make you good at it. With a good 3 or 4 months of intense practicing and good lessons you should be able to at least scrape by with your skills.

Play guitar trumpet piano and bass.
Depends on how much you practice. I’ve known people to become proficient in 1-2 years, while others have been working on it for 10+ years.

Different people have different rates. Just stick to it and keep perfecting your skills. Even the best continue to practice every day.

I agree with the answer that it depends. Are you musically inclined? Does it take you awhile to learn tasks that require coordination (especially if you’re interested in the drums). Also, do you have an extreme amount of patience? Lastly, do you have a lot of time on your hands?
If you can answer no to the second question, and yes to the following ones…then depending upon how old you are you can learn to be decent in 1-4 years. No joke. The range is that big because of the first question….how musically inclined you are. I knew someone who became a intensely good bass player within a year of learning. But the guy was really talented in playing trombone and music in general. My dad, on the opposite side of the spectrum, has been playing guitar for years on end and still is just ehh…
For playing the saxophone….it took me from 4th grade to 9th before I was good. However, switching to clarinet now as an adult only took me about a few weeks (they are very similar though). It all depends.
The big keys to becoming good is: knowing you will suck for awhile, and accepting it with humility; practicing just about every night (at least for 15-30 min bare minimum); playing with a group; learning music for a gig or some kind of performance in front of people (whether that even be your family); doing the boring ass technique drills that are recommended. If you think Lars Ulrich never works on technique you’re nuts!!
Good luck

Depends what you mean by really good. I know people who can pick up things really, really fast. Then there’s myself who takes a bit longer…
An average though might be 6-12 months before you might feel ready to play a few songs in front of other people. (YMMV)
