The inner core of your new found you when you hold and play a cigar box guitar is so refreshing and exicting to make music from a simple instrument, it’s the philosophy that started in the 1860’s and continues with your own hands!
I can honesty tell you playing and lisiting to a 6 string guitar is about as much fun as smelling someone else’s ranky …..it’s just so tired and boring and super predictable, just playing the same old licks and same old songs everyone else is playing, and doing it over and over again???? No Thanks…I like original things and my music to be unique with my style and flavor and something I created, not just rehashing the same old stuff I’ve heard over and over and over again, since all those boring songs are played on 6 string, why would I pick up a 6 string guitar…No joke, this is the truth, everytime I pickup up one I get bored, flustered and feel in a rutt in about 5 to 10 minutes, then I put it down and don’t play guitar at all!…but when I pick up a cigar box guitar, they are so much fun and captivating trying to figure out what might have been played 100 years ago I end up playing for hours, I am serious, 6 string guitars are really boring, don’t get me wrong, yes there great and they have thier place in music, but for some reason, I don’t seem to find musical happiness with one……if you feel the same way, try something creative and different in your life, Play a cigar box guitar!

Learn to Play Guitar Bottleneck Blues Series 3 Lesson 1C
Welcome To Series 3 Lesson 1C . In this installment, we will explore the idea of moving one pair of strings, Open D strings 2 and 1, to another location in Open G, strings 4 and 3. Both of these pairs of strings, have the same interval relationship of 5 over 1. The keys will sound different, but because they share the same string relationship, the musical ideas can be easily transfered. In addition, due to the different placement of the strings on the fingerboard, variations can be made using the adjacent strings.

The New Zealand national anthem provides a theme for the start and end of this tune while the middle is just room for improvisation. I tried to include phrases which have the same rhythm as “Long white cloud”, “Land of the long white cloud” or “Ao-te-a-ro-o-aa”. I don’t have a way with words, hence the unimaginative title. Hope you like it!
Yeah, it’s a ‘finger synch’ to a recording I made earlier. Bloody free-time intro threw me off.
(The NZ national anthem is “E Ihoā Atua” or “God Defend New Zealand” )
