Guitar Lesson – Fast Pentatonic Technique #1
Difficulty = 2/5 (You don’t have to play it that fast)
Variations of this basic pentatonic run are used by guitarists worldwide, most notably Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Dimebag Darrel of Pantera. In order to unleash the power of this exercise, you must learn how to apply the picking technique to other areas of the fretboard. Try moving everything up so that the 12th fret is played on every string. Then you would be playing E minor pentatonic. If you know other “positions” of the pentatonic scale (there are 5 in total), try to play all of them using this technique. Many more lessons to come, please subscribe!

At the time Hammett was taking private guitar lessons from now famous Joe Satriani..Hammett is one of the better-known students of guitarist and instructor Joe Satriani.
